Livewire vs React: Choosing the Right Tool for Your Next Project
We get this question constantly: "should our app use Livewire or React?" The honest answer is: it depends on what you're actually building, not which tool sounds more impressive on a slide deck.
When Livewire is the better call
If your app is fundamentally a Laravel application — dashboards, CRUD-heavy admin panels, marketing sites with interactive pieces — Livewire lets you build reactive UI without maintaining a separate frontend codebase or API layer. One team, one language, one deployment.
When React (or another SPA framework) makes more sense
If you need a highly interactive, offline-capable app, a dedicated mobile companion sharing logic with the web app, or you're building a product where the frontend genuinely is the product (a design tool, a real-time collaboration app), a full SPA framework earns its complexity.
The honest tradeoff
- Livewire: faster to build and ship, fewer moving parts, less flexible for highly custom interactivity
- React: more flexible and portable, but requires an API layer, more tooling, and a larger team to maintain well
For most of the marketing sites, internal tools and MVPs we build, Livewire wins on speed-to-value without sacrificing the interactivity clients actually need. We reach for React (or React Native) when the product itself demands it — not by default.
